Never too hot to run in Austin!

Fall Races Headed Your Way!

NOTE: RunBlog posts will appear here while Ready to Run is under construction.

August and September in Austin can get pretty hot,  but that’s never stopped runners from racing. Check out these upcoming events as we get ready for the fall calendar!

If you’ve headed south on I-35 in the last few years, you’ve probably noticed that Kyle has absolutely boomed. And running events there have also boomed. On Saturday, August 24, the Kyle Fire Department, invites you to join them at 7:00 a.m. for their 3rd annual Beat The Heat 5K.

Head to Marble Falls, where  Olympic 1,500-meter silver medalist Leo Manzano grew up for the Camp Agape Memorial 5K, set for Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 a.m.

On Saturday, August 31 at 7:00 a.m., give the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon at Garey Park in Georgetown a try. The course winds through lush, shaded trails, alongside sparkling rivers, and across rolling hills. This festive event includes snacks and refreshments at the finish at the race rally tent and a DJ playing hits while announcing every runner.

The Zilker Relays, set for Friday evening September 6 at 6:00 p.m. serve as the official kick-off to fall racing in the Austin Area. In case you’ve never run it, it’s a 10-mile relay race in Zilker Park.  Teams are comprised of four runners, each running a 2.5-mile loop from one central festival/transition area. What makes the Zilker Relays special is the finish line party featuring drinks, music, and prizes in the middle of Tent Village. The 2.5-mile course starts and finishes on the north side of Zilker Park (about 200 meters east of the volleyball courts). The post-race party starts right next to the finish line. (You can find shade under the trees and team tents.)

Runners who've lived in Autin for many years know well the Gruene  10K/5K. This venerable race, set for Saturday, September 15 at 7:45 a.m., starts in front of the iconic Gruene Hall, and the course traverses scenic rolling hills in this picturesque community. After the race, runners are invited to enjoy delicious local food and craft beer.

The 9/11 Heroes Run 5K is set for Sunday, September 15 at 9:00 a.m. at Austin’s Camp Mabry. The event includes an unusual “rucking division.” The race  honors the heroes of 9/11 and those who've served our nations since.

The Austin Distance Challenge kicks off with the Casa Superhero 5K at the Circuit of the Americas on September 22 at 8:30 a.m. It’s a regular festival, complete with music, snacks, games, and activities for the whole family.
